The Salvation Army Youth Center is open Monday thru Thursday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm during the school year and from 1:00pm to 4:00pm in the Summer. The target age is 5 to 12. Activities range from basketball, roller skating and dodgeball to arts & crafts, board games, character building programs (ie Sunbeams (Brownies) and Girl Guards(Girl Scouts), limited computer access and homework help, if requested.

The YLA is a program dedicated to the improvement of the low-income, minority communities in Racine, Wisconsin. Its mission is to strengthen the City of Racine by nurturing its most at risk population, inner-city minority youth between ages 8 and 14. In an attempt to reverse the negative trend of low academic achievement and stereotypical behavior of youth from low-income communities, the YLA is located at three locations: 21st Century Preparatory School, Wadewitz Elementary School, and YMCA (boys & girls).
